A hot air balloon crashed in central Türkiye on Sunday, killing his pilot and injuring 19 Indonesian tourists, a local official said.
In a statement, the governor’s office said the balloon has been affected by a sudden change of wind.
Mahmat Ali Kambosoglu said: “This was an attempt to land near the village of Gozlukuyu in Aksaray province, when the pilot left the balloon basket and his legs were in the rope.”
“Unfortunately, our pilot was stuck under the basket and died,” he said.
Warm air balloon is a popular tourist activity on the rough view of central Türkiye, with ancient churches in rocky faces. These attractions include the “fairy chimney” Capadkia-the long, conical stone manufacturers created by natural erosion over thousands of years, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A video from Ilhas news agency showed that a balloon was repelled, its passenger basket next to it because emergency services tended to be injured. Research is underway.
Another hot air balloon that had left the Ilarara Valley also made a hard landing on Sunday morning and 12 Indian tourists were slightly injured and taken to hospital.
Two Spanish tourists were killed in 2022, with a warm air balloon following a tour of Capados.
