“No excuse”: Matthew Hudson Smith is lost in the 400m final in the World Championships

The 400m Olympic Silver Medal, Matthew Hudson Smith, after being eliminated in the semi -finals of the Tokyo World Championships, provided “no excuse”.

The 30 -year -old, which was also runner -up in 2023 worldwide, reacted for the third time and came in third before it fell in the final stage and ended in 44.95s sixth.

Hudson Smith revealed that he felt something in his pelvis after Sunday, but refused to confirm whether the problem was on Tuesday.

“It was just one of those days. It happens. It really is no excuse,” he told the BBC.

The more pressure on his hip, the athlete Wolverhampton replied, “I am here to run. There is no excuse, you just have to do what you have to do, that’s the same.

“It’s just a race. I did it as best as possible and that’s all important. I want to get out of the time and re -evaluate many things and go from there.”

Hudson-Smith was the last UK hope for the finalist after Charlie Dabson and Sam Rardon also failed to refrain from the relevant heat.

The latter raised more concerns about the 4x400M relay this weekend after sharing worries about his hamstring.

“That was not what I was hoping for – I can definitely say that,” Rardon said. “I thought I could compete and look for something better.

“But I think the delay at first (to check for a false start) didn’t really help, especially with the injuries I had this year. After the first 50 meters, I just felt my hamstring tightening and pain.

“I think, looking at our performances this year, if we are at our best, we can challenge gold, but today it has shown that we are not at best.

“So we will go again, the team will definitely be there on Saturday and I hope we can put pressure on the medal.”
