Ambassador Trump admitted on the eve of recent negotiations: The last war between Ukraine and Russia: Putin has not yet shown interest in peace.

The Ukrainian army confirmed the attack on the Russian Ryazan oil refinery

The Ukrainian military has confirmed that it attacked Russia’s Ryazan oil refinery.

Russian Telegram news channel Astra earlier said that Ukraine had attacked the Ryazan oil refinery and shared images that appeared to show a fire and smoke billowing from the top of the refinery.

Pavel Malkov, the governor of the Ryazan region, said a residential building was damaged in the drone strike and debris from the drone fell on an “industrial facility,” but did not mention the refinery.

For months, long-range Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries have been aimed at depriving Moscow of the oil export revenue it needs to continue the war.

Meanwhile, Kiev and its Western allies say Russia is trying to cripple Ukraine’s power grid and deny civilians access to heat, light and running water for a fourth consecutive winter, in what Ukrainian officials call “weaponization” of the cold.

Starmer will meet Zelensky in Downing Street on Monday

Sir Keir Starmer will meet Volodymyr Zelenskiy along with the leaders of France and Germany at Downing Street on Monday as peace talks continue.

The Prime Minister will use the meeting with Mr Zelenskiy, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to show Britain’s support for Ukraine.

They will also discuss ongoing negotiations between US and Ukrainian officials aimed at reaching an agreement to ensure Ukraine’s security after the war.

Almost two weeks ago, the four men attended a virtual meeting of the “coalition of the willing” formed by Sir Kiir and Macron to provide a European peacekeeping force that could be deployed in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.

But peace still appears to be a distant prospect in Ukraine, where Russia launched a massive missile and drone strike on Friday night.

Meanwhile, US and Ukrainian officials are set to hold a third day of talks in Florida as Donald Trump’s administration pressures Kiev to accept a US-backed peace plan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has already rejected parts of the plan, as Ukraine’s territorial integrity and measures to deter future Russian attacks have proved too difficult for Moscow.

Europe has promised Ukraine a “reassurance force” after the war ends – but will it anger Putin?

Downing Street said Britain was planning a multinational force drawn from its partners on the continent, despite the Kremlin this week ruling out any foreign deployment as “unacceptable”.

Thousands of allied troops could be deployed to cities across Ukraine to help the army regain its strength and act as an independent deterrent against Russian aggression – if both sides can agree to terms.

Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant loses all off-site power overnight

Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant cut off all off-site power overnight, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Saturday, citing its director-general, Rafael Mariano Grossi.

The plant was reconnected to a 330-kilovolt (kV) power line after a half-hour outage, but a 750-kV line remains down, the International Atomic Energy Agency said.

Extensive military activity overnight affected Ukraine’s power grid and prompted active nuclear power plants (NPPs) to reduce output, the IAEA added.

A rail hub near Kiev was hit during a Russian missile and drone strike that damaged warehouses and rail cars, Ukraine’s state-run Railways said on Saturday.

In recent weeks, Russia has intensified its attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector and infrastructure, targeting power plants and railway poles.

The Ministry of Development of Communities and Regions of Ukraine said that electricity and heat production facilities in Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk regions were targeted in this attack.

Telegram said that 9,500 customers remained without heat and 34,000 without water in the southern region of Odessa.

Russia’s ambassador to the UK claimed that Russia had “nothing to do” with Skripal

Russia’s ambassador to Britain has said Russia had nothing to do with the Salisbury poisoning attack, despite an official report concluding that President Vladimir Putin “must have” authorized the use of the deadly nerve agent.

Ambassador Andrey Klein said he had no message for the family of Dawn Sturgess, who died after being poisoned in 2018.

“It’s a tragic death, of course it’s tragic, and Russia had nothing to do with it,” he said.

Instead, he claimed that the poisonings of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter were carried out by the British government and secret services.

He added: “It was done by very talented professionals. It reminds me of Ian Fleming or even Agatha Christie.”

Retired High Court judge Anthony Hughes, who conducted the inquest into Ms Sturgess’ death, found the attempt to assassinate Mr Skripal “must have been authorized at the highest level by President Putin” and said GRU agents were “acting under orders” when they carried out the attack.

The report concluded that the attempt to assassinate Mr Skripal “was not designed simply as revenge against him, but as a public statement that Russia will act decisively on what it sees as its interests”.

talk to Sky NewsGeneral Alexander Sirsky said: “Our main mission is to defend our territory, our country and our population… Naturally, it is unacceptable for us to surrender our territory. What does it even mean – to surrender our territory? This is exactly why we are fighting; therefore, we will not surrender our territory.”

He said that a “just peace” for Ukraine would be “without preconditions, without ceding territory.” He added: This means stopping along the current contact line.
