Researchers are trying to recover the remnants of two planes involved in a accident in Washington, DC, killing 67 people and questions about air safety.
Black boxes from the Bombardier CRJ-700 Bombardier CRJ-700, which collided with a UH-60 Black Hawk army helicopter and crashed into the Potomak River on Wednesday and killed 67 people.
The helicopter also includes a “type of recording device” written by the National Transportation Safety Board or by the Ministry of Defense under existing agreements.
What are the black boxes?

This name is incorrect. They are not actually black orange. Experts oppose how the nickname originated, but is synonymous with the efforts to responds to the plane crash.
Many historians attribute their invention to Australian scientist David Warren in the 50’s. The first devices have recorded limited data on wire or foil. Subsequent devices were converted to a magnetic strip. Modern cases use computer chips inside hard devices.
There are two recording: a pilot’s cabin audio recorder (CVR) for pilot sounds or pilot cab and a separate flight data recorder (FDR). Some devices combine both functions.
They are mandatory in civil flights and aim to maintain clues to the voices of the pilot’s cabin and data to prevent future accidents, but not to be violated or responsible.
Extensively, researchers say FDR helps them analyze what happened and CVR can – though not always – explain why. But experts warn that none of the two probes are the same and almost all accidents include various factors.
The disappearance of the Malaysia MH370 in 2014 discusses whether data should be broadcast instead.

How big are the black boxes on the planes?
They weighs about 10 pounds (4.5 kg) and consist of four main parts:
- A chassis or interface designed to repair the device and facilitate recording and playback
- A lamp available underwater
- The main compartment or “survival memory unit” made of stainless steel or titanium is capable of resisting the power of 3400 times the gravity.
- The recording chip on the circuit plate.
After contact with the water, they must first dry completely and clean the joints to ensure that the data is not randomly cleaned. Voice and data files are loaded and copied.

Initially the data means a little. Before turning into charts, it must be decrypted from raw cases and coincides with other data, such as air traffic control transfer.
Laboratory experts sometimes use “spectral analysis”, a way to decrypt fleeting sounds or hardly audible warnings.
FDRs must record at least 88 essential parameters, but modern systems can typically track the additional 1000 or more signals.

The CVR usually consists of two hours of recording on a loop, which is increased to 25 hours.
Implementation of such regulatory changes can take years, delaying last month’s Boeing 737 air joy.
Officials say the recorders in the incident, where 179 people were killed, did not seize the flight for the last four minutes.
In the 1990s, events in which recorders had stopped working, when electricity disappeared, prompted the NTSB to recommend sufficient backup power to provide 10 minutes of additional recording.
According to aircraft information at FlightRadar24, the change was finally approved for new aircraft since 2010, but only eight months after the 737-800 involved in the JEJU crash were running out of the Boeing plant.
