Cambodia for Donald Trump’s nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize after a ceasefire with Thailand

The deputy prime minister said Friday that US President Cambodia will nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, after his direct interference in stopping the recent Southeast Asian border conflict with Thailand.

San Chantol replied “Yes.”

Speaking to reporters early in the capital, Mr Chantul thanked Mr Trump for peace, saying he deserves to be awarded the highest international prize given to an individual or organization that seems to have done the most to “promote the help of nations”.

Pakistan said in June that it advised Mr Trump to help resolve clashes with India, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had nominated Trump last month.

According to Reuters, it was Mr Trump last week that trying to end the heaviest war between Thailand and Cambodia for a decade broke out the deadlock and led to a ceasefire negotiation on Monday in Malaysia.

Following a ceasefire, a White House spokesman Caroline Levit said in a post on X that Trump had done the case.

“Give him the Nobel Peace Prize!” He said.

At least 43 people were killed in fierce clashes, which lasted five days and displaced more than 300,000 people on both sides of the border.

“We confirm his many efforts to peace,” said Mr Chantul, also a top negotiator for Cambodia.

In an interview early Friday, Mr Chantton told Reuters: “Washington initially threatened 49 % tariffs, which later reduced it to 36 %, a level that could destroy Cambodia’s vital and vital shoes.”
