Punters may pick up a few Cheltenham Festival and Epsom Derby tips from Saturday’s race, and I’ve picked five to follow on the betting sites on another busy afternoon.
William Hill Futurity Stakes (Doncaster, 14.05)
The National Hunt season may be about to get under way, but there are still some big races on the Flat and this Group 1 race is always a marker for next season’s middle distance classics, such as the Derby.
This year looks to be no exception, as several runners in the field have already qualified for next year’s big races. Aidan O’Brien has trained the winner of this exercise four times in the past decade and he has a better-than-average chance of doing so again, as he saddles half of the six-runner field.
As for what they’ve achieved, it’s hard to choose between favorites Benvenuto Cellini, Hawk Mountain and Action, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see any of the three come back to Ballydoyle again.
We know less itemwho represents another trainer who recently sent out a winner in Andrew Balding. His achievements in two starts, both of which have been wins, have not caused any further problems in the official rankings.
He is learning fast, though, and his jockey Rob Hornby got off him after his success at Bath last month, telling Sky Sports Racing he thought the track was ideal and hinted at the race for him.
It’s only a six-runner field, so we’re playing for two spots each way, but if his coach gets him in here, we’ll have to take it seriously. He could well outperform his price on horse racing betting sites and come very close. A mini-game is offered each way.
Tip 1 of Saturday’s match: Item (Doncaster, 14.05) – 0.5pts per side @ 2/17 (Ladbrokes)
William Hill Extra Handicap (Doncaster, 15.50)
A field of 14 has been announced for this £25,000 straight mile handicap. The conditions at Doncaster are endless, which can often lead to confusing results, and that can be the case here as well.
Items can be made for several items with shorter odds than in betting programs Look back with a smile But many of them are not proven in heavy movements. Jem Totti’s five-year-old likes to get his hooves out and has fallen some way below those of his last two wins.
He comes in after a respectable effort at Newcastle last time out, that win over C&D and they don’t have to make too many mistakes for him to come into the reckoning. Admittedly, the stable has had a relatively quiet spell, but that has been factored in and 1/14 could look a lot bigger at four o’clock on Saturday. Again, he’s a small proposition for each side.
Saturday Match Tip 2: Look Back With A Smile (Doncaster, 15.50) – 0.5 points each way @ 14/1 (William Hill)
William Hill Every Way Extra Novices’ Limited Handicap (Cheltenham, 13.10)
It’s great to look back at the showjumping form and we’ve got a lot of competition coming up as the winter season kicks off.
At the time of writing, the horse racing betting apps are running at 6/1, which is my favorite. Inox Allenwhich makes the long journey south from Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore’s yard.
The seven-year-old’s record is a bit patchy, and considering he’s already had balloon surgery, that’s probably why. However, when he’s right he certainly goes well when fresh and using a clip to go with the tab he used certainly paid off at Perth in the spring when he took it all and won easily.
The trip and ground look ideal for him and coming back from a break and keeping the grip, he looks to have the potential to continue to improve over fences having only started twice. With the stable’s runners in good form, he looks worth leaving out to go close.
Saturday Race Tip 3: Inox Allen (Cheltenham, 13.10) – 0.5 points each way @ 11/1 (Beth Goodwin)
William Hill’s Best Chance Guaranteed Handicap Chase (Cheltenham, 14.20)
It’s great to see a £100,000 pot so early in the season and it looks set for another big Cheltenham autumn effort. Highland.
He probably doesn’t want any significant rain, but if the ground stays good to soft or better, he should hit again at the business end. He jumps superbly, which of course is a major asset here, while he has also won over C&D and all three of his wins have come this season, including at this meeting in the last two seasons.
He has yet to win from a mark this high, which makes it a little tempting to bet he will win, but it is easy to see him finishing in the top three, and he has the potential to win again as he has a good record in freshman time.
Saturday Match Tip 4: Highland (Cheltenham, 14.20) – 0.5 points each way @ 2/15 (William Hill)
Pertemps network failure barrier (preliminaries) (Cheltenham, 14.55)
As the market suggests, there is an open view of this enduring barrier, with high yards on either side of the Irish Sea. I like the look of Gordon Elliott’s trained trainer to winWith the chart-topper behind him, he finished third when winning over a large field over hurdles in the Galway List in August (2m 6½F, Good).
Always outstanding on the day, he traveled well and had the ability to get through on the inside with a superb ride by Jack Kennedy. He certainly looked like he had a bit more under the hood there and the slightly longer trip offered the possibility of further improvement. He will be good on this pitch and I fully expect him to come out strong when he gets up the hill.
Saturday Race Tip 5: Smooth (Cheltenham, 14.55) to win – 0.5 points each way @ 13/2 (bet365)

Please gamble responsibly
If you’re betting on Saturday’s race, it’s important to gamble responsibly.
Betting can be addictive, and it’s important to stay in control of your gambling, whether you use the best betting sites, casino sites, slot sites, bingo sites or any other gambling platform.
Never treat gambling as a way to make money, never bet more than you can afford, and stop when the fun stops.
Gambling sites remove tools like deposit limits, profit and loss trackers and options to help you stay in control.
Try not to get carried away with free bets or casino bonuses, which are widely available on gambling apps.
But if you ever feel like you need help or advice with your gambling addiction, don’t hesitate to contact one of the charities or organizations below.
