Chloe Madeley has said her marriage to James Haskell ended in a “horrible” and “dark” way.
In 2023, Madeley, a personal trainer, and former rugby union player Haskell announced in a joint statement that their five-year marriage was over.
At the time, they said they would not reveal the reason for the split – but Madeley, daughter of TV stars Richard Madeley and Jodie Finnegan, has now opened up about the months leading up to their split, calling them “super scary”.
“When you tell people you’re going through a divorce, everyone sees it as a negative thing,” she said the sunHe added: They say: This will be very difficult for you. And yes, it is, but the hardest thing was when we got married.”
“It was a very dark, painful year and one of the worst years of my life,” Madley said, saying that “the last year of marriage was awful.” It’s great that we finished it
“It was incredibly scary. I’m surprised I got through it the way I did. I think more people should see it as a positive thing. I’m so proud of myself and I’m so relieved that it’s actually I called it a day.”
Madeley also explained that she did not want to go into detail about the reason for the divorce in order to protect her daughter Bodhi from the “dark and painful experiences” she endured.

A joint statement shared by Madeley and Haskell in October 2023 read: “Chloe and I have mutually decided to separate at the end of September 2023.
We hadn’t planned to release a statement at this time – certainly not while the TV show was on – but the constant speculation about our marriage has unfortunately forced us to.
He continued: “Beyond this statement, we will not be speaking publicly about this matter and request privacy at this time.”
Our only focus now is our beautiful daughter. “We will carry on with nothing but love for our co-parents.”
Their announcement came shortly after appearing on the ITV reality show Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair.
In February 2023, Madeleine revealed that she returned to work as a personal trainer just eight weeks after giving birth because she “needed the money”.
The coach, who welcomed her daughter in August 2022, said that while she had a “very good income”, they did not have a joint account and her “pride” made her return to work.
