The stone cottage had an ivy-covered front and was enclosed by a white picket fence “among the hay and woods,” Close recalled.
“So I decided when I was building this house, because I’m living backwards, I’m going to build a cottage, a stone cottage, in the back of the house,” Closes added. “Because the happiest and most inspiring years of my life were in that place. I decided to end my days in that cottage.”

“You’re really kind of in control of things in a way that most people don’t get to do,” Louis-Dreyfus said. And I think it’s wonderful that you’ve been able to do that. And I’m thinking right now that I should build myself a cottage here.”
Close then told Louis Dreyfus that while she’s 78, that’s not how old she feels.
“I’m probably in my twenties. Maybe early thirties,” he said. “When I think about how old I really am, it amazes me. So I don’t think too much about it. Because I don’t think I fit into what people expect you to look like at 78.”
Close has previously shared her thoughts on aging while working in Hollywood. During an interview in 2022 with glitterShe criticized skin care routines such as fillers and other procedures aimed at preventing aging.
The Deliverance star explained: “We’ve been so brainwashed about skin. Certainly about women’s skin. The texture of your skin and warm, hard, smooth bodies versus those fighting back to get back.”
“It’s really fascinating to me because as our house gets older it should become more and more interesting. Yet you have this facade that people see.”
