Inside the Mexico City Dance Parties without alcohol, cost or judgment

It is 4pm on Sunday afternoon and a booth of prominent windows in a Mexico city park is almost packaged. The general public is diverse, but everyone here wants the same thing: free dance, no cost, without harassment and prejudice.

Twenty -one hours, children gather with mothers, teens, and older couples around the Joki discs console. A whisper filling the air because approximately 300 people are waiting for the start. The first notes then pierce the air and a chills pass through the crowd.

“This is a free invitation to everyone as they want to move in a safe space!” Saeed Axel Martinez, one of the founders of the collection, encourages a microphone and encourages. With their speed, every person is left away by music – and it does not appear to be surprised by the movements of others.

From the experimental jazz and the Egyptian hip hop to a more familiar pulse from Cambodia, which has an electronic touch, people dance to it all.

The party was held by Nueva Red de BaILAADOS or NRB (new dancers), a group whose aims to create spaces that people can gather freely to dance. There is no cover cost, alcohol and there is no pressure to move “correct”.

Nine years ago, the collection began as a simple gathering of friends who dance freely in an apartment. As the word expand, the number increased from 20 to 50 and then more than 100 – so they had to move to a park.

“The new network of dancers (society) is philosophy and action,” Martinez said. “Dancing alone is very realistic, but dancing with many people is also rich.”

As they increased, the NRB approached the authorities and communicated with the Agency in charge of preserving the Mexican City Historical Center and museum managers who agreed to provide other audio equipment and other resources for these events.

Relying on the network of audiences, it has arranged about 300 dance sessions in more interesting and unexpected spaces such as old factories and gardens.

The last NRB party had two floors of dance – one inside and the other outside the booth – both were full of joy and light. As the organizers pointed out, their parties refuse to the police and security, and reinforce the sense of collective care in which participants are looking for each other.

Anna Celia Agust, 29, regularly said in NRB dances, “I am able to reach an environment where you feel happiness and respect … it gives you a relaxation.”

The main point of this collection is due to becoming a real social network, and what the NRB Elías Herrera member describes as the “virtue loop” between online and in -person interaction.

While movies and social media posts have been involved in promoting dance parties, the word mouth has been an important word for their popularity.

Mato Cruise, 27. He said, “I knew a lot about dancing and my body always mixed it with alcohol.

The capital of Mexico is a city that dances especially in its most popular neighborhoods, where the public space often becomes a dance floor for market anniversary, saintly celebrations, or simply Cambia’s happiness.

However, in general, these parties have a more homogeneous population and music selection. In contrast, the NRB dances open the dance floor to a more diverse audience and invite everyone on a changing music trip.

Isabel Miralofers, a 73 -year -old retired high school, came with his wife and said he was enjoying dancing and attending people of all ages. “I think it’s great because it’s a free event,” he said. “We gather with people from all areas of society and enjoy it without any problems.”

The sun has settled, it is about 7pm, and more than an hour before the dance, but dozens are still waiting to enter the booth at the famous Bosque de Chapultepec, an city park that extends more than 2000 hectares in the heart of Mexico City.

“In a capitalist reality like us, it is very difficult to find an alternative option, especially the one that is free,” Martinez said. “Avoid all things for us.”
