Mikel Arteta has confirmed two key Arsenal injuries ahead of their Carabao Cup clash with Brighton

Arsenal will be without William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash with Brighton as injury problems mount for the Premier League leaders.

A hard-fought win over Crystal Palace at the weekend left the Gunners four points clear at the top of the table, but several knocks to key players overshadowed the result.

And while Declan Rice and Ricardo Calafiori are fit and could feature, Saliba and Martinelli will not feature.

“Saliba is out, he won’t be in the match,” Arteta confirmed. “Rice will be available. Calafiori, yes [available]. Martinelli, looks like he’s going to be out. “This game will come very soon for him.”

Bocayo Saka was ill last week and had a poor performance against Palace before being substituted in the second half, but Arteta said the winger “will be fine”.

Arteta is likely to change his starting line-up for the fourth round, with Christian Mescura, Piero Hincapie, Ben White, Ethan Navaneri and Max Dauman all likely to start. But the coach is still without several senior players, including Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
