Ryanair reduces one million seats to Spain this winter and describes what it describes as “over -competitive price increase” from the country’s airport operator.
The budget of the Ireland Airlines has announced that two million seats will leave Spain on Wednesday (September 3) in a “tourism disaster”.
The airport operator said the airport operator has increased 6.62 percent of airport costs since 2026 – the highest increase in a decade, the airline said.
Following the increase in fare, Ryanair reduces its capacity at Spanish regional airports by 600,000 seats (41 %) and 400,000 seats on the Canary Islands (10 %) this winter.
This means cancellation of 36 direct relationships with regional Spain and Canary Islands.
The airline also said Ryanair also brings the operation closer to its two -air base in Santiago, resulting in a loss of £ 149 million in the Galisia area, the airline said.
All the flights of Tenerife North will be suspended from the end of this year, as well as the flight to Vigo from January 1, 2026.
Airlines’ bases will be closed in Valladolid and Jerz until winter and its capacity will be reduced in Asturias, Santander, Saragoza and Vitoria.
According to the airline, Anna’s decision to increase airport charges is evidence that the operator “simply wants to focus on profit from the country’s main airports”.
He added that the airport operator and the Spanish government “have failed Spanish areas” with airports that are now almost 70 % empty.
As a result of “excessive increase”, Rivanir’s winter capacity from Spain is led to “more efficient” airports in Italy, Morocco, Croatia, Sweden and Hungary.
Rivanir, a leading Spanish passenger airline, hires more than 10,000 pilots, cabin crews and country engineers.
Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said that although the airline remained “committed to Spain”, “it cannot justify continuous investment in airports whose growth is over -competitive and unattainable.”
“It is shocking that, despite helping 28 billion euros (24 billion pounds) to the Spanish economy and one of the three tourists who reach Rivanir flights, there is no desire to cooperate to stimulate traffic in areas that require capacity, connection and investment,” Wilson said.
“Ryanair once again urged the CNMC and the Spanish government to reject this over -cost increase and expand frost to protect the connection, tourism and regional jobs.”
