Solar first becomes the main source of electricity in the European Union

According to new figures, solar energy was the main source of electricity in the EU for the first time in June.

The renewable energy source accounted for 22 % of the EU’s electricity generated and overcomes nuclear energy, which produces 21.6 percent of electricity.

EURSTAT data, the EU Statistical Office, showed that more than half of the EU electricity was renewable in the second quarter of 2025.

Three countries in Europe managed to produce more than 90 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources, while 15 countries were able to increase their renewable share in their energy composition compared to the same period last year.

“Denmark, with 94.7 %, had the highest share of renewable power generated, followed by Latvia (93.4 %) [and] Austria (91.8 %), “in a Eurostat report.

“The biggest increase in the year in the year was recorded in Luxembourg (13.5 % (PP)) and Belgium (1.1 pp), both due to solar energy increases.”

According to one study 2023, solar energy is forecast by 2050 by 2050, with increased costs and increased efficiency.

Renewable technological advances also mean that the power generated by fossil fuel will no longer be economically viable in the coming decades.

Two UN reports in July showed that renewable energy switch has passed the “positive positive point”, while UN Secretary -General Antonio Guterres described it as “dawn of a new energy period”.

Despite the positive trend, the world’s largest economy to return to pollutant power has been returned.

Last week, at the UN General Assembly, US President Donald Trump criticized the transmission of clean energy that is happening in most of the world.

“I have been right about everything and I tell you if you don’t get away from this green fraud, your country will fail,” he said.

An analysis of the Environmental Protection Group estimates that the oil and gas industry has spent $ 450 million to influence Mr Trump and other Republicans in last year’s presidential election.
