Masked Polish soccer hooligans armed with batons attacked two trucks of Spanish fans on a highway in the middle of the night, police said on Thursday.
Police said two cars stopped in front of buses carrying Spanish fans, forcing them to stop on the S8 highway near the village of Prosienica in east-central Poland.
Then a few dozen people came out of a nearby forest and attacked the Spaniards. Police said a fence was down on the side of the highway.
The police said in a post in X: At the scene of the accident, the paramedics of an ambulance helped the injured and three people were taken to the hospital.
“A total of seven people were arrested in connection with this incident. The seized items included a cap, a telescopic baton, a wooden stick and metal scissors.”
Rayo did not immediately respond to a request for comment. La Liga club Ultras Bucaneros did not post about the incident on their social media accounts, while Spanish police said they had no information about it.
Jagiellonia are ninth in the conference league table with eight points, while Rayo are 12th with seven from four games.
Domestically, Jagiellonia are going strong as they sit fourth in the Polish table.
They have 28 points from their opening 16 league games and are just two points behind leaders Wisla Pluk with two games in hand.
At the same time, Rayo is in the twelfth place of La Liga with 17 points from 15 games, slightly below the middle of the table.
They sit five points clear of the bottom three, with Girona, Real Oviedo and Levante currently occupying the relegation spots as La Liga heads into the midway point of its season.
