The French president Emmanuel Macron says the Sumy strike, which killed at least 32 people, shows that Russia has “obvious disregard for human life, international law and President Trump’s diplomatic efforts.”

The Sumy attack on Sunday is the second major attack to claim civilian life within a week, following a deadly missile attack on Mr Zelnski Cryo Ray’s birthday on April 4, killing about 20 people, including nine children.

The Ukrainian prime minister, Dennis Qamal, accused the Russians of targeting the civilian population by increasing the number of dead in Sami.

He said in X: The building of the Sami State University and the surrounding houses were destroyed.

“A Russian pessimistic and brutal strike in downtown Sami. On the holidays, Sunday, the enemy deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure with missiles, in a crowded area with people. Many killed and wounded. My heartfelt condolences to families.”

He emphasized that Russian “occupiers” would be accountable for their crimes.

“The world must act. More air defense systems, more weapons, more sanctions against Russia – this is what saves thousands of civilians,” he said.
